A maioria dos substantivos tem plural.
De modo geral, acrescenta-se "s"
ao singular. Ex.: BOY - BOYS
REGRAS
ESPECIAIS:
1. Se o substantivo terminar em s, ss, sh, ch, x, z, ou em o precedido de
consoante,
acrescenta-se es para formar o plural.
bus - buses;
bush - bushes;
coach - coaches;
fox - foxes;
watch - watches;
hero - heroes
kiss - kisses
2. Existem 13 substantivos terminados em f ou fe cujo plural é formado
pela
troca do f ou fe por ves:
life - lives;
wife - wives;
knife - knives;
thief - thieves;
elf - elves;
self - selves;
loaf - loaves
shelf - shelves;
leaf - leaves;
sheaf - sheaves;
wolf - wolves;
calf - calves;
half – halves.
Os demais substantivos terminados em f e fe apresentam plural regular
(acrescente somente s): a belief - beliefs - crenças
a safe - safes - cofres, etc.
3. Nos substantivos terminados em y precedido
de consoante,
troca-se o y por i e acrecenta-se es:
Ex: body – bodies
4. Substantivos terminados em vogal + y seguem a regra geral:
acrescente s.
Ex: a way - ways
5. Alguns substantivos são usados apenas no
singular, com verbos também no singular:
Ex: news, advice, furniture, information, knowledge, progress
6. Outros substantivos são usados apenas no
plural, com verbos também no plural:
Ex: pants, pajamas, trousers, clothes, glasses, scissors, goods, riches
7. Os substantivos sheep e deer são invariáveis, isto é, têm a
mesma forma para singular e plural. Assim também os substantivos pátrios
terminados em ss e se (Swiss,
Japanese)
8.Alguns substantivos que apresentam forma
irregular no plural:
die - dice;
mouse – mice;
woman - women;
goose - geese;
ox - oxen;
man - men;
tooth - teeth;
foot - feet;
louse - lice.

THE INDEFINITE ARTICLE

indefinido)
O artigo indefinido tem duas formas em inglês: a e an.
Ambas têm o mesmo significado - um, uma - e são usadas somente antes
de substantivos contáveis no singular.

Usamos a antes de palavras iniciadas por letras com som de consoante:
a past
a hot summer
O a é ainda usado antes de palavras começadas por vogais com som de yu
ou w:
som de yu: a university , a European country
som de w: a one-way street, a one-horse coach

A forma an é usada antes de substantivos iniciados por letras com som de
vogal:
Ex: an army,
an idea
Também usamos an antes do h mudo:
Ex: an hour,
an honest governor
Então...
Quando uma palavra começa por
h, há duas possibilidades:
Se o h for pronunciado,
usa-se a.
Se o h não for
pronunciado,
usa-se an.

DEFINITE ARTICLE (artigo definido)
Em geral, o artigo definido the (o, a, os, as) é usado em inglês do mesmo
modo que em português, isto
é, para indicar
algo que já conhecemos ou que é de conhecimento de todos.
Ex: The girl in red is my friend
The Beatles were famous.
Onde não usamos the?
1. Antes de nomes próprios:

2. Antes de possessivos:

3. Antes
de substantivos empregados em sentido geral:

O verbo there to be é o verbo haver, existir em inglês.
Ex: There is a car outside There are many cars
outside.
Obs.: "Ter" no sentido de
"possuir"
é expressado pelo verbo HAVE.
Ex: I have a car. (eu tenho um carro)
Affirmative form
singular .......there is ...há ,existe
Ex: There is a woman in the car.
plural .........there are... há existem
Ex: There are two women in the car.
Observação: O verbo muda de There is para there are de acordo com o
seu complemento:
woman é singular e two women é plural
Você também poderá usar a forma contraída there's e there're.
Exs: There's a

Negative form
singular... there is not.... não há, não existe
Ex: There is not a beach in this place.
plural...... there are not ...não há , não existem
Ex: There are not beaches in this place.
Você também
poderá usar a forma contraída There isn't e there
aren't.

Interrogative form

Usa-se o verbo ter para dizer
a idade em língua portuguesa; em inglês, usa-se o verbo to be:
aprenda a aceitar as diferenças lingüísticas.

Use o verbo to be para falar das seguintes sensações físicas:
ter fome / estar com fome ...to be hungry Ex: I am hungry.
ter sono /estar com sono ....to be sleepyEx: Peter is sleepy.
ter sede / estar com sede.... to be thirsty Ex:The boys are thirsty.
ter medo / estar com medo ....to be afraid Ex:They are afraid of spiders.

Preposições são palavras que conectam um
grupo de duas ou três palavras que relacionam os substantivos ou pronomes
ao
elemento básico da sentença (sujeito, verbo, objeto ou complemento)
Preposições têm sido chamadas as "pequenas grandes palavras em
inglês". Elas são bastante pequenas e de aparência insignificante, porém
têm funções extremamente importantes.
Preposições normalmente indicam relacionamentos, tais como posição, lugar,
direção, tempo, modo, agente, possessão e condição entre objetos ou outras
partes da sentença.

In – (no, nas, nos, nas, em,
dentro de)
Sentido de estar dentro algum lugar
Usos do "In"
Lugar ou residência em um
estado, uma cidade, ou um país (O lugar é normalmente uma
grande área ou uma grande cidade).
Ex:
He lives in America.
That river is in California.
Ponto do tempo, ou período de tempo como uma unidade completa.
Ex:
I saw him in January.
It was in 1965.
Duração de tempo.
Ex:
He can do it in an
hour.
He finished that book in one
evening.
Línguas.
Ex:
They were speaking in Arabic.
The play was produced in French.
Dentro, dentro de, fechado.
Ex:
He is in his office now.

de um certo período de tempo.

On – (no, nas, nos, nas, em,
sobre)
- Sentido de estar sobre algum lugar;
- Sentido de continuidade;
- Sentido de ligar algo.

Dias da semana e outras
datas.
Ex:

Local ou residência de uma
rua cujo número não é dado.
Ex:

At –
(no, nas, nos, nas, em, perto)
- Sentido de estar perto de algum lugar;
- Usado na frente de lugares públicos;
Usos do "At"
Local ou residência em uma
pequena cidade, ou em um endereço de uma rua, se o número da casa é
dado.
Ex:
He lives at Smithville.
We have finally arrived at his
town.
Tempo exato.
Ex:
He arrived at 8:00
o'clock.
Those farmers stop working at sunset.
Preço.
Ex:
The prices of those books begin at one dollar and go up.

Expressa uma ação que está acontecendo no presente momento.
O presente contínuo tem esta fórmula:
to be + verbo principal com "ing"
Exemplo: I am studying.

Para usá-lo corretamente, você vai precisar lembrar:

E NEGATIVA
Como o present continuous é formado pelo verbo to be, para formar a
interrogativa,
coloca-se o verbo to be na frente da frase. E para formar a negativa,
acrescenta-se not após o verbo to be.
Ex:
Affirmative form: You are studying English.
Interrogative form: Are you
studying English?
Negative form: You are not studying English.
Vamos conjugar o verbo to study( estudar) no present continuous( exemplo
acima):

Ortografia dos verbos na forma ing
Muita atenção ao adicionar ing aos verbos, pois alguns
sofrem alterações ortográficas:
1. Verbos terminados em e: retirar o e e adicionar ing, por exemplo:
make - making
take - taking
2. Verbos terminados em ie: retirar o ie e acrescentar ying, por exemplo:
die - dying
lie - lying
3. Verbos monossilábicos com a estrutura
consoante 2 + vogal + consoante 1 (da direita para a esquerda)- antes
de
adicionar o ing, duplique a consoante número 1,por exemplo:
run - running
swim - swimming
4. Verbos com duas sílabas e
acento tônico na primeira sílaba da direita para a esquerda- antes de
adicionar
o ing, duplique a consoante número 1 se a estrutura for consoante 2 +
vogal + consoante 1,por exemplo:
beGIN - beginning
MURder -
murdering
Adicionar somente o ing aos demais verbos:
study - studying
play - playing
do - doing
go - going
travel - traveling
sleep - sleeping

Simple
future expressa fatos e acontecimentos que provavelmente ocorrerão.
Exemplo:
They will arrive tomorrow.
Indica decisões tomadas no momento em que se fala.
Exemplo:
The cell phone is ringing. I’ll answer it.
Oferecer ou pedir ajuda.
Exemplo:
Who will help me?

1. Formação ( affirmative form): SUJEITO + WILL + VERBO PRINCIPAL
(no infinitivo sem o TO)
2. Formas abreviadas:´ll (will) won´t (will not)
3. Formação ( negative form): SUJEITO + WILL NOT (WON'T) + VERBO
PRINCIPAL ( no infinitivo sem o to)
Exemplo:

4. Formação ( interrogative form): WILL + SUJEITO + VERBO
PRINCIPAL (no infinitivo sem o to)

going to (Progressive
Future- futuro progressivo ou futuro próximo)
Essa forma expressa a intenção do sujeito de realizar uma ação no
futuro. Esta intenção é sempre
premeditada e planejada; expressa também a idéia de que alguma
preparação para esta ação
já foi feita;
Ações expressadas pelo going to são mais prováveis de acontecer.
Exemplo:
He is going to be a denstist when he
gets the graduation. (Ele será um dentista quando se formar)
I´m going to to meet Tom at the
station at six o´clock. (Encontrarei Tom na estação na estação às seis
horas)
Observações:
a) O will pode ser substituído por shall na primeira pessoa do singular e
do plural (I/ We) em sentenças mais formais.
Exemplo:
I shall do everything and we shall live in
peace.
b) O auxiliar will expressa fomente uma intenção que não está
certo que vai acontecer, enquanto que o going to denota uma probabilidade
maior de que a ação aconteça.

21.TO BE GOING TO (Progressive Past - passado progressivo)
O Passado
Progressivo é constituído pelo verbo to be no passado + going to.
Descreve uma ação planejada,
mas que por algum
motivo não foi realizada.
Exemplo:
He was going to commit suicide, but a man saved his life.
(Ele ia cometer
suicídio, mas um homem salvou a sua vida.)

São os pronomes que indicam um elemento
dentro de um conjunto, mas que não se define.
Estes pronomes são usados em inglês para fazer perguntas abertas, ou
seja, perguntas que não
podem ser respondidas com "sim" ou "não". São chamados de question words
ou wh -words, uma vez que quase todos
começam por Wh.

a coisas inanimadas ou animais) .Refere-se a um número ilimitado de
elementos).

1. Quando a pergunta é feita sobre o sujeito da oração, não se usa verbo
auxiliar. Who é usado para pessoas e what para coisas.

What broke the window? A stone broke it.
What happened? A collision between two cars.
2.Whom é usado no inglês formal e se refere
ao objeto direto ou indireto da oração.
Por isso, também formal é
o uso de whom precedido de preposição.
Ex:

letter?
4. No inglês informal as preposições geralmente vêm no final da frase em
perguntas interrogativas.
Ex:
What is that for?
Where is your family from?
Who are you looking at?
REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS
27.Reflexive Pronouns - Pronomes Reflexivos
Os pronomes
reflexivos indicam que o
sujeito a mesmo tempo e agente e paciente da ação.
Myself – me, eu, mesmo, eu próprio
Yourself –você, você mesmo
Himself – se, ele mesmo
Herself - se, ele mesmo
Itself – se, ele/ ela mesmo
Ourself – nós, nós mesmos
Yourself –
vocês, vocês mesmos
Themselves – se, eles/ elas mesmos (as)
Oneself – a gente, a gente mesmo.
USO:
A) uso reflexivo : concordam sempre com o sujeito e aparecem depois do
verbo (objeto) mostrando que uma
determinada ação
do sujeito reflete sobre ele mesmo.
Ex:
The boy hurt himself ( o menino feriu-se)
B) uso
enfático(enphatic ) : dão um realce ao sujeito ou ao objeto. Podem ser
usados logo após o sujeito ou após o complemento do verbo.
Ex:
She herself charged the tire (Ela mesma
trocou o pneu)
C) Eles também podem
ser usados na
locução by + pronome reflexivo, caso em que significam sozinho, sozinha,
sozinhos, sozinhas.
Ex:
She often go camping by herself (ela freqüentemente vai
acampar sozinha).
He's all by himself (ele está sozinho)
NOTE:
Alguns verbos são reflexivos
em português e não o são em inglês, e vice-versa.
Ex:
He shaves once a week (Ele se barbeia uma vez por semana) o pronome
reflexivo não é usado em inglês
She knelt down... (Ela se ajoelhou...) o verbo não é reflexivo em inglês, mas é
em português.
They're enjoying themselves... (Eles estão se divertindo...) o verbo é
reflexivo nas duas
línguas
After getting dressed, I... (Depois de me vestir, eu... ) o pronome reflexivo
não é
usado em inglês
Alguns verbos reflexivos
em português correspondem a get + adjetivo em inglês.
Ex:
He got married ( Ele se casou)
He got tired ( Ele se cansou)
He got desperate( Ele se desesperou)
