SOBRE O WORLD WAR II MEMORIAL

O Memorial em honra dos 16 milhões que serviram nas forças armadas dos Estados Unidos durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial., A mais do que os 400,000 que morreram, e todos que suportaram o esforço da guerra em casa.

Simbólico evento do Século XX, o Memorial é um monumento para o espírito, sacrifício, e acometimento de Pessoas Americanas. A Segunda Guerra Mundial é somente no Século XX evento comemorado para aqueles que em comum se esforçaram para defender a nação e seus irmãos pela causa de acabar com a tirania do eixo.

Eles vão inspirar as futuras geração de Americanos, enraizando a apreciação do qual a Geração da Segunda Guerra Mundial concluiu ao assegurar a liberdade e a democracia.

Acima de tudo, o Memorial tem a posição de um importante símbolo da Nação Americana em sua unidade, de um tempo menos recordado, mas de força moral e imponente força esta pode ser o símbolo do fluxo livre de pessoas numa batalha comum e enfim abrangentes a todos.

 O SITE: O primeiro passo em estabelecimento do memorial é a seleção de um site apropriado a contar a história do guerreiro povo americano que viveu este período.

A autoridade legislativa condição do Congresso para o Site do Memorial na primeira área da Capital Nacional, conhecendo a área I, que inclui o National Mall. O Parque Nacional de Serviços, a Comissão de Belas Artes, e a Comissão de Planejamento da Comissão Nacional aprovaram a seleção da seção de matiz do site e ao final do Leste de Cor Refletida entre o Lincoln Memorial e o Monumento de Washington. O Presidente Clinton dedicou o site do memorial durante uma cerimônia formal do Dia dos Veteranos em 1995.

 O DESIGN: ABMC engajado a Administração Geral de Serviços (GSA) o Serviço de Construção Públicas para atos é um agente de administração do projeto deste memorial. O design foi submetido a Friedrich St.Florian, um arquiteto com residência em Providence, R.I. foram selecionados seis semifinalistas em um concurso para escolha da “Arte Final” do projeto. Leo A Daly, uma arquitetura internacional assinada, reunindo os times vencedores com St.Florian um design arquitetado.

O time também inclui George E.Hartman da Hartman-Cox Architects, , landscape architect Oehme van Sweden & Associates, o Escultor Ray Kaskey, e stone carver and letterer Nick Benson.

Memorial St.Florian’s design teve o conceito aprovado pela Comissão de Belas Artes e Comissão de Planejamento Nacional da Capital no verão de 1998.

A comissão aprovou o Design Preliminar em 1999, a arquitetura final do design e vários elementos auxiliares em 2000, seleções de granitos em 2001, e Esculturas e Inscrições em 2002 e 2003.

FUNDAÇÃO DA CAMPANHA

O memorial foi fundado primariamente por contribuições privadas. A Fundação da Campanha é conduzida pela cadeira nacional do Senador Bob Dole e Nacional Co-Cadeira Frederick W.Smith.

O Senador Dole, um Veterano da Segunda Guerra Mundial seriamente ferido em batalha de campo e duas vezes condecorado com a Estrela de Bronze e o Coração Roxo, é o Republicano Nomeado para Presidente em 1996 e por muito tempo liderou o Senado Americano.

Frederick W.Smith é homem da cadeira, presidente e chefe executive da FedEx

Corporation, uma global transportadora e logística companhia de seguros. Ele é graduado Yale e formado no Corpo Oficial da Marinha Americana, e serviu em vários transportadoras, indústrias e organizações civis.

O Memorial responde a mais de $ 197 Milhões em dinheiro e promessas. Deste total incluem-se $16 Milhões fornecidos para a o Governo Federal.

LINHA DO TEMPO

A construção iniciada em Setembro de 2001. O Memorial aberto para o público em 29 de Abril de 2004, e é dedicado ao 29 de Maio de 2004 num Sábado.

O Memorial virá parte do Sistema Nacional de Parques em 1 de Novembro de 2004, sendo transferido da Batalha Americana.

A Batalha Americana de Comissão de Monumentos é um independente, a agência com 11 comissionários e um secretário apontado para Presidente. O ABMC administradores, operadores e 24 permanentes manutenções militares cemitérios e 25 estruturas memoriais em 15 países aproximadamente o mundo. A comissão é também responsável pelo estabelecimento de outros memoriais no Estados Unidos dirigido pelo congresso.
