LIFE / VIDA
LIFE (March 12, 2021)
I’ll make you a necklace of butterflies
never allowing them to die
that they always might
constantly hover around your lap
and bathe you with the shadows
of rainbows
I’ll give you gloves made of little fry
never allowing them to dry
but to float
among your fingers like mother-of-pearl
making the ocean to swim
over your hands
I’ll weave you a comb of emeralds
with pink trefoil entwined
around grass
and the sunshine they gathered yesterday
will make you warm along the days
of wintertime
I’ll spin you the softest pair of sandals
woven out of the hair
of kindly animals
not out of wool, but as living caresses
to keep fresh your skin
on summertime
And finally with my childish eyes
I’ll cast the thinnest veil
over your face
so that the world you may watch in awe
before the wonder and splendor
of life
VIDA (My original poem in Portuguese)
Eu te farei um colar de borboletas,
porém que não pereçam:
sempre possam
adejar continuamente junto ao colo
e te banhar com as sombras
dos arco-íris.
Eu te darei luvas feitas de alevins,
porém que não ressequem:
que flutuem
entre teus dedos feito madrepérolas,
levando o oceano a nadar
sobre tuas mãos.
Eu tecerei um pente de esmeraldas
de trevo rosa entrelaçado
em grama;
e todo o sol que recolheu na véspera
te aquecerá durante os dias
de inverno.
E te urdirei as sandálias mais macias,
tecidas com os pelos
de animais,
mas não com lã: serão vivas carícias,
para manter-te fresca
no verão.
E, finalmente, com olhos de crianças,
eu lançarei um véu
sobre teu rosto,
para que o mundo vejas com espanto,
na maravilha e resplendor
da vida.
